Famine in Niger!

Last year's rains, and hence the crops in Niger failed, and there is now famine, worse than 2005 - in fact the UN say the crisis is of a magnitude not seen before.

Fodder from trees

400,000 children are in danger of dying of starvation; the feeding stations are overwhelmed with desperate people and haven't enough money to buy food for them all.

About 7 million people (half the population) face hunger, OXFAM and Save the Children say it is more critical each day. JOY is fundraising, and can get donations out via Jenny Tedd to ease the situation.

Please mark donations Niger, and your name and address for Gift aid if you are a taxpayer. The money will go directly without any deductions for administration etc.

Romania - A very special holiday!

Clever Hands day care centre are preparing for the annual camp at the Christian holiday centre in Vlahita, Harghita, which is the highlight of their year -

Gyongi & Tunde

to be able to enjoy fun all together in the beautiful Harghita mountains, sharing fellowship and teaching with other young people. Some of you will remember being involved in building part of the camp, and helping with the deliveries of supplies from JOY including the provision and fitting of a stair lift up to the chapel.

Zsuzsi and Monika

Funding is a problem for the poorer disabled youngsters, and Lynsey Kinnear and her friends have raised the wonderful sum of £1253 to enable them to have this very welcome holiday at this wonderful, caring, Christian camp which caters for disabled people (almost without precedent in Romania) Congratulations Lynsey and co for a magnificent effort!
